Who’s Your Midwife?

No one will support and nurture your birth journey like a MAMA midwife.

Our registered midwives offer expert, loving care through pregnancy, birth, and postnatal support—whether you choose home birth, private care, or a public hospital.

MAMA Midwifery Care

Support for Pregnancy, Birthing and Early Parenthood

At MAMA, we walk alongside you through every stage of your journey — from early pregnancy to postpartum and beyond.

  • Homebirth is the process of giving birth at home with trained midwives, emphasizing minimal intervention and personalized care. It’s considered safe for healthy women and babies, with research showing less unnecessary intervention.

Midwives provide expert clinical care, monitoring, and ensure a safe environment, with all necessary equipment.

If you choose this care model, our midwives will care for you throughout pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postpartum period.

If a transfer to the hospital is needed, the midwife can remain as a support person.

Following the birth, they will assist in the early transition to postpartum & continue their care throughout the fourth trimester until the end of the postnatal period at seven weeks.

  • If you would like to give birth in a hospital, our midwives can be supportive and knowledgeable birth partners.

Our midwives are employed by you, not by hospitals, which means they will not be the primary caregiver in these settings.

However, they will be with you as your advocate, a trusted presence in the birth room, and will provide support to you and your partner.

They can help bridge the gap between you and a clinical setting you may not be familiar with, working collaboratively as part of your birth team

  • Did you know that our midwives can still care for you during your pregnancy even if you prefer to not access birth support?

This can be done either with MAMA ‘sharing’ your care if you are eligible and booked into certain hospitals such as Monash Medical Centre, The Royal Women’s and Sunshine hospitals.

If you are accessing care with a different provider, you can still have additional antenatal visits with a MAMA midwife.

This can beautifully complement the standard care and give you more time to explore your pregnancy & have space to gain insight, education and extra care from a midwife who is able to provide individualised (not policy driven), evidence-based care.

  • Whether you are accessing our MAMA midwives during pregnancy and birth, or simply looking for more support after your baby has joined you earthside – we can help.

Our midwives can visit you in the comfort of your own home for those early visits with your new baby, and can progress to visits in our practice space so you might also meet more parents in your community.

Postnatal care can be accessed for the first 6 weeks after meeting your baby – ensuring that you feel supported & informed during a huge life transition.

  • We believe that women & birthing people know how to instinctively birth and raise their babies, but we also know that people like to feel informed and mentally prepared for huge life events.

Our team of registered midwives and lactation consultants offer a range of education classes that are based on evidence and physiology.

We can guide you through comprehensive birth education, preparing for a planned caesarean, approaching your VBAC with less fear, exploring the fourth trimester, learning to breastfeed and practicing skills such as infant first aid.

Our independent classes are not influenced by any policies, and are held in small groups which means you also begin building your community support and parenting village with like-minded people.

  • Unfortunately, we know that 1:3 women and birthing people are describing their birth experiences are traumatic.

That is why at MAMA we believe that the way people birth matters & we care about how people are made to feel during these life altering moments.

Whether you describe your birth experience as traumatic or empowering, it can still be beneficial to explore your experiences with a professional who is educated and committed to providing a safe space for you to do so.

Birth debriefing can be a starting point towards being able to understand, process and integrate your birth experience.

This can help support healing over time or simply provide a sense of clarity on parts of birth that you may not have fully digested.

Midwifery-led care and continuity of maternity care provider have been proven to improve outcomes for pregnancy, birth, early postnatal period and infant health.
